Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off a new two-car branch of the Corvette family at Sebring, and the bigger story may be the engine sitting at the center of it.
It is called the Grand Sport, which makes a grand coming for 2027; it is closely joined by a Grand Sport X version, both being equipped with a V8 7.6-liter naturally aspirated, LS6 small-block engine, rated at 535 horsepower and 705 Nm of torque. According to Chevrolet, this is the most torque-rich naturally aspirated V8 ever to fit a Corvette in factory form.

The LS6 will not be limited to these trims for long. Chevrolet says it will also become the standard engine in the 2027 Stingray, which says plenty about where the brand sees volume in the range. In fact, the company expects Stingray and Grand Sport models together to account for most Corvette sales, turning this new V8 into the lineup’s core powerplant rather than some niche specialty.
Chevrolet did not ignore the visual side. The design leans on Grand Sport history through hash marks, heritage colors, Admiral Blue, and new forged or carbon-fiber wheel choices. Launch Edition cars add a Santorini Blue cabin with red accents and unique trim details. Production of the 2027 Stingray, Grand Sport, and Grand Sport X begins this summer at Bowling Green, while the Grand Sport X is due in dealerships later this year with pricing expected to land above the outgoing E-Ray’s $108,600 starting point, before destination.

The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X also fills the gap between the Stingray and the Z06 and ZR1, with a couple of enhancements borrowed from the high-power variants mentioned above, like Magnetic Ride Control or firmer suspension tuning. There are also the carbon-ceramic brakes, extra aero, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Cup 2R rubbers.
Then there is the Grand Sport X. This version replaces the hybrid all-wheel-drive E-Ray in spirit and, really, in role too. This means that it packs an electric motor up front, backed by a compact lithium-ion battery mounted in the chassis.
The motor itself brings forward 186 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque, contributing to a total output of 721 horsepower. The US-based carmaker also states that the electric motor provides enough torque to ignite stronger traction and quicker acceleration.

As the company states, the hybrid allows low-speed electric running, meaning that the carmaker`s new Stealth mode helps the car to move smoothly on electric power alone at up to 50 mph/80 km/h, which is quite an impressive feat. On the other hand, the Shuttle mode reduces that even further, capping speed at 23 mph, without igniting the V8 engine. Endurance, Qualifying, and Push-to-Pass setups control the level of battery that is deployed.
