When big automakers or automakers of standing start to come out with plans of low standard cars there is reason to worry. Porsche, in this case have announced that every model in their lineup would be offered in a hybrid version as well. They have also announced that in order to reduce fuel consumption as well as to lower CO2 emissions of their car, they are planning to downsize their engines.
The Development Chief at Porsche, Wolfgang Duerheimer has said at a recent interview that: “If the CO2 guidelines require it, then our engines will become smaller and may have just four cylinders. The important thing is that the performance has to be right. The 911 must always be on the cutting edge.”
There is news though that Porsche is in the process of working out a right compromise between its driving prowess as well as keeping to the green clean concept of the world. The smaller engines that they are mulling over would be fitted with turbochargers and they are also considering methods to reduce weight of the car by about 10 percent.
Duerheimer adds “A constant weight is our minimum requirement in the change to a new generation, even with compliance with all the new safety and comfort requirements. You could hardly achieve much more than that with current technologies”
Within the next five years they plan to come out with vehicles that would be made up of carbon fiber. This would cater for a 50 kilogram weight loss and the concept would be applied to all their road vehicles.
