Mercedes-Benz will equip the GLK with a diesel engine in 2012. This new engine will be the same used on the next generation C-Klasse: a 2.2 l four cylinder engine. It seems that Mercedes plans to increase the power of the Diesel engine and reintroduce an oil burner.

The current GLK 220 CDI that is now on sale around Europe puts out 170 BHP and 400 Nm of torque. This means that the car can reach top speeds of 205 km/h (127 mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in 8.8 seconds.

The compact luxury crossover made its debut at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show at the same time with the Q5. It was released in Europe in 2009 and in North America in 2010. Respecting tradition, the car is built in Bremen along with all the other SUVs.
