Brabus, the famed tuning firm that specializes in the Mercedes brand have now unleashed a new model named the 800 Widestar. This latest Brabus creation is a follow-up on the 700 HP Brabus G V12 S modified Mercedes that they had on offer prior to the the current model which forms an extreme version of the G-Class off road model.
The engine has been taken from the S600 model which is a V12 unit. The modifications that have been applied to this base engine are in terms of increased displacement. So what used to be a 5.4 liter engine now reads 6.3 liter. A new intake system has been added as well as engine mapping varied out. There is also the Brabus bi-turbo system which features four water-to-air intercoolers. The exhaust system also is a specific one having custom stainless steel make.
Output of the engine now reads a whooping 800 hp at 5,500 rpm. The torque is an equally impressive 1,420 Nm or 1047 lb-ft which is considerably high and that too, is available at a low 2,100 rpm. The peak torque however is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm, which has been done to protect the transmission system.
The gearbox is a five speed one which has been further reinforced so that its capable of transmitting the entire torque to all four wheels via a 4WD system. Speeds of 100 kmph are therefore attained by the car from standing still in just 4 seconds. Top speed that is limited to 240 kmph or 149 mph. In case the limiter is removed the tuning firm guarantees a top speed of 270 kmph or 169 mph.
Also, as the name itself suggest, the car has been put through some body treatment that has added to the width of the car. Like there is the fender flares and this adds 12 cm or 4.7 inch to the body width and is in keeping to the name of the car. There is however enough space for wheels of 20 and 23 inches to be fitted. The overall looks of the car is one of aggression.
The other feature of the car is the Brabus’ Ride Control suspension with automatic damper adjustment. The interior has been done up with an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel, a speedometer with 280 km/h (182 mph) dial and stainless steel scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo.
