New Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster caught testing ‘undisguised’

by Alex

The world premiere of the SLS AMG Roadster model from Mercedes-Benz is scheduled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The company though has released some teasers in the meantime which depicts a masked prototype during testing.

There are spy photographs too of this soft top Mercedes supercar while it was out on the roads in Germany. The spy photographs depict the car done up in black and the soft top in contrasting tan color.

The Gullwing door coupe and the roadster variants of the car were built simultaneously. The structural differences between the two models were therefore easy for the engineers to keep in mind. This is the reason that the open top model is lighter. The weight of the body shell in case of the Roadster is 536 pounds or 246 kg while that of the Coupe is 5 pounds or 2.3 kg lesser.

The same engine – the 6.2-liter V8 is fitted on both the roadster and the Coupe. The power generated by the unit is 571 hp in European specification and 563 hp in North American specification. The engine is mounted just aft of the front axle with a seven speed dual clutch transmission system delivering the power to the rear wheels.
