We covered a rumored replacement for the Ferrari 599 a few days back – well the Italians officially confirmed it as the F12berlinetta (in one word and with the lowercase “b”). The 740 horsepower monster will be the fastest production Ferrari ever built.
The F12berlinetta is powered by an enhanced version of the FF’s 6.2-liter V12. This engine being more powerful than the one of the 599, and the car being 70 kg lighter than the same vehicle, it is self-explanatory that the performance has been significantly improved. The F12 finishes Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in just 1 minute and 23 seconds, a full second quicker than the 599. Sprint to 62 is done in 3.1 seconds, and Ferrari said that this car would get a top speed of over 340 km/h (about 212 mph). Although that’s 10mph lower than the F12berlinetta’s primary rival, the Aston Martin One-77, the Ferrari is a bit heavier (due to use of aluminum instead of carbon fiber, which also means that the Ferrari won’t be as rare). Apart from that, the F12 will be a bit less expensive than the Aston.
In this supercar, Ferrari opted for the twin-clutch transaxle gearbox. The new transmission and suspension reduce the size of the rear axle assembly. There are active brake ducts than open only when needed, so the drag reduction has been a purpose for the Ferrari engineers.
We probably don’t need to mention the fact that this car looks stunning: aggressive yet stylish, beautiful yet ruff.
Ferrari will give us more info at the Geneva Motor Show from next week. Stay tuned on speedlux.com for latest Ferrari F12berlinetta news.
