The new Mustang GT is powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 engine that is capable of delivering 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel-drive through a six-speed manual transmission. In my opinion, the manual transmission is the best way of driving such a car: it gives you the feeling you have full control of the car. The curb weight is 3,618 lbs, which isn’t at all much.
The car handles great, and is comparable to the 6.2-liter Chevrolet Camaro SS, but weighing almost 200 pounds less. The high-speed banks bring only very little over-steer, but an experienced driver wouldn’t find any difficulty in regaining control. The only thing that disappoints in this car are the brakes, which simply don’t have the stopping capability necessary for such power. Ford resolved this problem, though, by introducing the Track Package, which brings, among others, more capable brakes (for an extra fee of $2,495).
Top speed and acceleration haven’t been measured yet, but they are expected to be close to the ones in the previous model (4.2 to 60 and a top speed of 160 mph). Fuel consumption is acceptable, at 17 mpg city and 26 highway.
This car is a pretty good one, especially if you compare power and performance with base price, which is only $31,095.
