Even though the highly luxurious supercars and exotics out there are very tempting to most people, especially car enthusiasts, there is this one thing about them in common. They all share complex powertrain system under their hood. It is this complex powertrain that makes these cars stand out of the crowd. Unfortunately, the thing about such a powertrain is that it is quite vulnerable to fire. There have been plenty of cases out there in which cars like the Ferrari and Lamborghini happen to spark serious bit of flames out of their engine bay. This time, a Porsche 918 Spyder shows just how prone a supercar is to spontaneous combustion.
The incident happened very recently at the northern part of Toronto, US. The Porsche in question was actually just sitting idle at an Esso gas station located at the Caledon’s 14010 Hurontario Street. The owner of the car was trying to refill the fuel of his vehicle. According to reports swirling around the web, the V8-powered beast started to spark flames because the gasoline that the owner was trying to put into the fuel tank of the car got spilled on the vehicle’s exhaust manifold, which was pretty hot at that moment. To make things worse, the gasoline was of high octane. As such, it did not take long for the car to burst into flames. Due to the heat of the fire, the rear end of this highly luxurious German supercar got totally burnt down to the ground, preceding the melting of other parts of the vehicle’s body. At the end of the day, the car got totally damaged so severely that repairing it was no longer an option.
On the Twitter account of a person who claimed to be an eyewitness of the incident, the owner of the ill-fated Porsche 918 Spyder was Michael Wekerie. If this is to be believed, then there is nothing to worry about for the owner. Michael Wekerie is a very wealthy kid from Bay Street and he has millions of American dollars at his disposal. However, as it turns out, he is not so good a person, after all. Three years ago, he injured the doorman of a hotel and was legally charged for his action. As if that was not bad enough, he once tried to escape officers as well while driving under the influence of alcohol. On top of them all, Wekerie has even been charged for his very bizarre action of licking the foot of a woman.
