BMW is set to reveal an alliance to establish self-driving automobiles with Mobileye and Intel, a source familiar with the matter stated, as the race to put driverless automobiles on the road warms up.
The tie-up is likely to concentrate on innovation being developed by Mobileye to offer computer-driven vehicles better reflexes without motorist input, introducing an era of self-driving automobiles early in the next years, experts said.
The 3 firms stated they would hold a joint news conference, without offering details. It will be attended by BMW chief executive Harald Krueger, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, and Mobileye chairman and primary technology officer Amnon Shashua, they stated.
Automakers and technology companies stand out new alliances to advertise self-driving vehicles after being caught off guard by big financial investments by Silicon Valley business such as Google, Tesla, and Apple into the field.
Addressing at a William Blair investor conference in mid-June, Mobileye chief financial officer Ofer Maharshak said his company would have more clients for these brand-new systems to reveal in coming months.
“You know three are already engaged, Nissan, Volkswagen, and General Motors. We are going to have four or five– between 4 to five others in the next months, as much as the start of 2017,” he said.
“Initially complete autonomous car on the roads, 2021 timeframe. It’s going to be most likely announced in the coming weeks,” Maharshak stated.
