CEO Sergio Marchionne slams the emissions rules ‘mess’ in Europe

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne complained regarding emissions regulations in the European Union, stating that the single market was meant “to avoid this mess”.

“Bad rules are also applied in a different way in each country, making the worst solution that could be invented,” Marchionne stated.

FCA is dealing with a U.S. criminal investigation for alleged emissions manipulation and German allegations that it, like Volkswagen, utilized “defeat devices” to confound nitrogen oxide (NOx) tests.

The automaker this week also became the third automaker along with Volkswagen and Renault to be referred to French prosecutors concerning the scandal.

FCA has rejected any misbehavior.
