Ariel Atom 3.5R revealed

by SpeedLux

New track toy is here! England based Ariel Motors is well known for their road legal high-performance track car, the Atom which has just been revealed with 350 hp and a weight of just 550kg!

There have been different special editions with engines ranging from a four-cylinder unit to a big V8 bumping out over 500 horsepower.

Ariel has now unveiled the new Atom 3.5R special edition with very impressive specs.

Powered by a highly modified Honda Civic Type R-sourced 2.0-liter engine with 350 horsepower at 8,400 rpm thanks to custom sidepod-mounted intercooler and increased boost from 7.5 to 11 psi.

The more standard Atom uses the same engine with 310 horsepower, but these additional 40 horses are really doing miracles, as the 550 kg (1220 lbs) Atom 3.5R rockets from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in a mere 2.5 seconds with 0-100 mph (0-161 km/h) coming in 6.0 seconds.

Imagine going form 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds in a car that does not have a roof, no doors and windshield. Pretty scary!

All that fun is priced in UK from £80,000 (roughly $135,000) and the special edition will be offered only in Europe, though U.S. importer TMI Autotech, Inc promises a similar version for the North American market in the near future.
