BMW will adhere to strategies to start a Mexican plant in 2019 regardless of comments by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to put a border tax on the German brand’s cars made in Mexico and destined for the United States, an executive stated.

In an interview with German paper Bild released on Sunday, Trump stated BMW needs to develop its new automobile factory in the United States due to the fact that this would be “much better” for the automaker.

However BMW will adhere to its strategies and open the factory in San Luis Potosi in 2019, executive Peter Schwarzenbauer informed press reporters at a conference in Munich on Monday.

The new Mexican plant would develop the BMW 3 Series beginning with 2019, with the output planned for the world market. The factory would be an addition to present 3 Series production centers in Germany and China.
