BMW testing M2 with six-cylinder turbocharged N55 engine – report

by SpeedLux

A latest report indicates that BMW is currently in process of testing M2 Coupe prototypes with an uprated N55 engine.

The N55 N55B30T0 engine is the same inline-six TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter mill that is inside the currently range-topping M235i Coupe. However, BMW’s engineers are in process of tweaking the motor to increase its output from the current 326 HP (240 kW) to somewhere in the region of 380 HP (279 kW) which is a substantial increase of more than 50 HP. The report also suggests that the engine is being tested in conjunction with both manual and automatic gearboxes.

If the M2 manages to enter the phase of production some day, we can surely expect to find some new features such as the newly introduced chassis tech from the M3 Sedan / M4 Coupe duo, as well as an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential (aka Active M Differential) and a quad exhaust arrangement.

A probable launch date is sometime in 2016. The details are limited as of now about the model and the new engine updation and so we will have to wait for some time for further details to be unveiled by the company.
