by Zack Colt

The Copo Camaro is a racing car which has been built according to NHRA Stock Eliminator drag racing, and which of course, among other offerings, has been revealed at the 2011 SEMA show.

The COPO Concept is powered by a supercharged 327 engine but can accommodate both the naturally aspirated 7.0-liter 427 (the same capacity as the original 1969 COPO) and the supercharged 5.3-liter 327due tp the fat that it has been designed to be fitted with more than one engine options.

“The COPO Camaro is proof of what a Chevrolet Stock Eliminator entry cold look like”, said GM vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports Jim Campbell. Moreover, he revealed that it will make it past the concept stage, since “Chevrolet intends to homologate the Camaro for sportsman drag racing.”

As befitting a racecar, the COPO Camaro displayed at the SEMA show does away with all amenities of the production version, such as rear seats, sound deadening materials and accessories. Instead, there is a driver safety harness,a pair of bucket seats, a competition shifter and Auto Meter gauges.
The independent rear suspension has also been replaced with a solid axle, and has fitted a full chrome molly roll cage.
