Eight fastest production cars in 2009

Even though auto industry is in global crisis, there are still some amazing cars in production that most of us will never get to see in real life.

If you have the money, these cars are still very hard to get as they are usually all sold out before the production starts.

With these cars the main question is how fast they are, how unique and how much do they cost. We have put together a top 8 list of supercars that are currently in production.

8. Pagani Zonda R

Pagani Zonda RTop speed: 217 mph (350 km/h). 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) comes in about 3.0 seconds.

Price starts at: $1,850,000 (1,460,000 Euros)

Power comes from a AMG sourced 6.0-liter race derived V12 that develops 750 horsepower. Only 16 units will be built. Zonda R is all about pure driving without the all the luxury that you will find in a Bugatti Veyron.

7. Gumpert Apollo Speed

Gumpert Apollo Speed

Top speed: 224 mph (362 km/h), 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds.

Price starts at: $392,954 (301,600 Euros)

It is not the prettiest supercar, but on the track it is a real beast and leaves pretty much everyone behind. Apollo is powered by a 4.2-liter Audi V8 that develops up to 800 horsepower.

6. Bristol Fighter T

Bristol Fighter TTop speed: electronically limited to 225mph (362 km/h), 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) 3.5 seconds. Price starts at: $576,201 ( 411,483 Euros).

Fighter T is made in Britain and uses 8.0-liter V10 found in the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Thanks to twin-turbochargers it develops 1012 horsepower. Power is sent to rear wheels.

According to Bristol maximum speed is actually 270 mph (434 km/h), but it is electronically limited to 225 mph. Around 10 Fighter T models are built a year.

5. Zenvo ST1

Zeonvo ST1

Top speed: Electronically limited to 233 mph (375 km/h). 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3 seconds.

Zenvo ST1 is the first supercar from Denmark. Developed by Zenvo Automotive it will be limited to just 15 units.

7.0-liter V8 is mounted behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle and develops 1104 horsepower.

4. Koenigsegg CCXR

Koenigsegg CCXRTop speed: 250+ mph (400+ km/h). 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds.

Price starts at: $1,200,000 (870,000 Euros).

CCXR is the first green supercar. When run on regular gasoline, the 4.7-liter twin-turbocharged engine develops 806 horsepower, when run on E85 Biofuel it develops an impressive 1018 horsepower.

We talked to Koenigsegg and they said 15 units are already delivered and another 10 will be delivered this year. It takes around 55 days to produce one of these supercars.

3. Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4

Bugatti Veyron Bleu CentenaireTop speed: 253 mph (407 km/h). 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.5 seconds.

Price starts at: $1,755,405 (1,305,000 Euros).

Veyron is the most known supercar in this list. Total production is 300 units plus limited editions. Power comes from a 8.0-liter 16 cylinder quad-turbocharged engine that develops 1001 horsepower and 1250 Nm of torque. It is also more luxurious than any other car in this list. Of course all this has a price.

2. 9ff GT9-R

9ff GT9-RTop speed: 257 mph (414 km/h). 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds.

9ff GT9-R is based on the Porsche 911 GT3. But it is no Porsche as only 2% of the components are shared with the original GT3. It is lower, longer and the engine is in the middle not on the rear.

Power comes from a 4-liter 6 Cylinder Boxer engine that develops 1120 horsepower.

Total production is limited to just 20 units.

1. SSC Ultimate Aero

2009 SSC Ultimate Aero

Top speed: 270 mph (434 km/h). 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.8 seconds.

Power comes from a 6.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that develops 1,287 HP. Stopping a car going over 250 mph is not easy, so 2009 year model has an AeroBrake to slow the vehicle down.

2008 model year had 1183 hp and it successfully held the “World’s Fastest Production Car” title last year. Now with extra 104 horsepower it is even harder for competitors to snatch the title.

In the near future we will look at some of these cars in person. Stay tuned!

I added all the horses together and WOW. All these 8 cars have a combined output of 8092 horsepower. So the average hp is more than 1000!!!

Surely they are all exclusive, but to me the best looking in Koenigsegg.

So why is the top speed limited on the Bristol?
I gotta feeling that it is not safe to go faster than 225 mph. Well it is probably not safe in any of these cars because you pass one mile in just seconds if you are going full speed. And if you crash then….

I can think of a number of reasons why the Bristol is limited, most of which come under the banner of “common sense” 🙂
The Fighter T is only on this list because those awfully nice chaps at Bristol accommodated their customers’ requests for “more power”. It is not a Supercar (it can comfortably seat two 6 foot people, plus their golf clubs, for pity’s sake!). It is the fastest Grand Tourer we’re ever likely to see.
Exactly where are you going to find a straight long enough to spend any time at 225mph, let alone 270? Given that it has the lowest drag factor of any car on this list, I reckon it certainly is capable of more than 270, which would make it faster than the SSC, but at that speed the slightest bump would see you airborne…

@LEon
Absolutely. I talked to the guys at Bristol and they are working on something new. We shall see soon what it is. Anyway they said that top speed is not their priority and if they wanted they could top the 270 mph as well – as you said their drag factor is lowest on the list – it is almost two times lower than on the Veyron.

Best comment I got from them is that they will never use four-wheel drive as it kills the driving fun.
