Electric Porsche 928

by Alex

Jeff McCabe had a dream that was never to be realized due to the exorbitant price involved – that of owning a Telsa Roadster. He instead had a Porsche 928. To realize his dream he therefore did away with a lot many items of the Porsche 928 and reduced the overall weight by more than 1700 lbs. The standard engine went off, the 1st 4th and 5th gears were also dispensed with as also some of the electronics and headlights.

There was also a replacement of the standard wheels and brakes with lighter replacements that he carried out. The heavy glass on the Porsche is also something he replaced. He then went on to add the battery pack consisting of 750 lithium iron-phosphate cells which had an overall weight of 1300 lbs.

The end product was a car that could go a 115 plus miles on one single charge and hit a top speed of 85 miles per hour or 137 kmph. This against the 45 miles on one charge that the car in lead acid battery unit is able to do. He has posted some video of the car for all to see.
