Honda Motor is now selling its cars online as the coronavirus crisis have led more automakers to sell cars online.
Since the coronavirus crisis the consumers are increasingly buying online, even big-ticket items like new cars that they earlier purchased only after they had a chance to check themselves.
The move will be creating new contact points with younger customers.
The automaker on October 4 started to allow drivers to use their smartphones to select their desired model and options, get an estimate, and sign a purchase contract.
The move has made Honda the first major Japanese automaker to sell new cars online.
Dubbed Honda On, the store provides lease-like monthly subscriptions to the N-Box minicar, Fit compact and two other popular models. The subscription consists of the cost of automobile inspections and tax. Consumers pick up their cars at a nearby dealership, where they also go for maintenance.
The service is only available in Tokyo for now but will it be expanded, the automaker said.
Honda said that it has made the service easy to use for Generation Z consumers who have never visited a dealership and feel that the bar is too high.
Tesla, Lynk & Co are some other automakers that sell cars online.
