Selling a wrecked car can be an unpleasant experience for even the most experienced drivers. However, there is always an easier way to get rid of your junk vehicle whilst making more money than you expected. Whether the car went through an unfortunate accident or a natural disaster, it’s never a completely lost cause and you can still get some cash out of it. Here are some useful tips on how to sell your wrecked car.

1 – Assess the total damage of your car

When you make the decision to sell a broken vehicle, one of the first things you should do is to assess the total damage and make an estimate of how much it will cost to repair everything. By doing that you will have an idea of how much to sell it for and how much the possible buyer will have to spend to fix it. Sometimes the car can be sold for more or for less money than you’d expect, and sometimes it can only be used to salvage parts so you should consider reducing the price in this case.

2 – Fix everything you can

Another useful tip to improve your experience selling a wrecked car is making a list of all the repairs that need to be made. Most of the time, there will be a lot of minor repairs that you can do yourself and it will not only improve the quality of the vehicle but also increase its value.

3 – Set a reasonable price

Before posting your wrecked car for sale, make sure to consider the cost of the repairs before setting a price. An honest price will certainly attract more people interested in your car and consequently it will be a lot easier to find a buyer.

4 – Find a buyer for your wrecked car

Now that you already have an idea of how much to charge for your wrecked car it’s time to find a buyer for it. Depending on the state of the vehicle, it’s natural that you consider selling it to a junkyard. However, that is not the best alternative, as junkyards are not known for buying cars for a reasonable price and they usually require the seller to transport the vehicle there by themselves, which costs money. That said, regardless of the state of the car, an excellent way to find people interested in buying it is by posting an ad on free websites, such as Craigslist and Facebook. These platforms allow the sellers to post their items for sale and they’re usually full of local people interested in buying these items.

5 – Get a quote from a nationwide junk car buying company

Sometimes Craigslist and Facebook are limited to local individuals but that shouldn’t be a problem. There are nationwide car buying companies that specialize in buying junk cars and you can check them out for an idea on how much to sell your car for or simply to make the process faster by directly selling to one of them. Search for these platforms to expand your options and you will certainly have better results finding a genuine buyer for your wrecked vehicle.

6 – Be as informative as possible

This tip is really useful to increase the chances of selling your wrecked car for a reasonable price and reducing the time of the process.  In order to be informative, you will need to write down a list of all the repairs that need to be made and estimate how much it will cost to fix everything. In addition, make sure to add pictures of the vehicle and include all the possible details you can in the description. Finally, if you follow all of these steps, chances are you will get some cash out of your wrecked car in no time.
