by SpeedLux

McLaren has recently provided new details about the firm’s upcoming entry-level model which is codenamed P13.

McLaren’s chief executive Mike Flewitt provided insights about the vehicle that is being developed as a direct competitor for the Porsche 911 and will be unveiled at next year’s Geneva Motor Show with a price tag of whopping 120,000 GBP. It will adopt the same carbon fiber composite chassis as the 12C and P1 while motivation would come from the familiar V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine outputting anywhere between 450 hp (335 kW) and 500 hp (373 kW).

Output will be put to the ground via a dual-clutch seven-speed auto transmission which will allow the vehicle to do a 0-60 mph (0-96 kmph) in just under 4 seconds before hitting a top speed of approximately 185 mph (298 kmph).

The McLaren P13 will be smaller and lighter than the 1,400 kg 12C and is being characterized as a “pure driver’s car” with the styling reportedly being inspired by the range-topping P1. Following the coupe’s launch, McLaren will also add a Spider variant as well as a more radical stripped-out derivative to take on the Porsche 911 GT3.
