Mercedes-Benz has now become the second biggest player in the luxury car segment, a slot that was earlier held by Audi. It achieved the feat on the back of a stupendous sales figures for the month of this year. For the first half of this year Mercedes-Benz claims a sales figure that’s 1,750 units more than Audi.

BMW leads the race with a total sale of 585,755 cars in just the first half of this year. It therefore retains its position as the top most luxury car manufacturer in the world. Audi was leading the sales over Mercedes-Benz for the first five months of the year. That was until Mercedes-Benz launched the new S-Class and the E-Class cars and this helped the Stuttgart based auto manufacturer to cross sales figure to 113,300 in the month of June. Joachim Shmidt, who is the head of sales and marketing of Mercedes-Benz said in a statement “We are also in an excellent position to do well in the months ahead and plan to continue Mercedes-Benz’s success with a significant increase in the third quarter.”
