Porsche is coming back to Motor City! After exiting the Detroit Auto Show in 2007, the German car-maker has now decided to return to Detroit. In 2007 they said that they will focus their attention on the Los Angeles Auto Show, but now they have announced that they will launch a new model at the Detroit Show, as a comeback. “We’ll have something spectacular to show there,” said Hans- Gerd Bode, a spokesman of Porsche. “You’ll have to wait and be surprised.” he added. It seems that the new car will be launched on January 10 along with all the other VW group presentations.
Porsche’s return to Detroit shows how relevant this show is for the luxury manufacturers. Last year for example, Porsche sold a quarter of its 85,903 vehicles to the U.S., but this year deliveries to the U.S. have dropped 49% to just 2,416 cars and sport-utility vehicles.
“Porsche’s return demonstrates the relevancy of the Detroit show for luxury manufacturers,” said Rebecca Lindland, an analyst at IHS Automotive in Lexington, Mass. “They target a very specific audience with their cars and the U.S. market is incredibly important for Porsche.”
