Ontario of Canadian province stated on Wednesday it will provide approximately C$ 85.8 million ($66.5 million) to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to assist fund training and research.

Ontario is part of Canada’s much of auto industry, said the financing will support a joint Fiat Chrysler and University of Windsor research and advancement center as well as training associated to manufacturing of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan.

The brand-new minivan, assembled in Windsor, Ontario, will be readily available as a plug-in hybrid, a first for Chrysler in a high-volume vehicle.

Fiat Chrysler failed to protect financing from the Canadian and Ontario federal governments prior to retooling its Windsor assembly plant to produce the Pacifica, openly withdrawing an appeal for cash in 2014 after settlements threatened to become an election issue in the location.
