A Waukegan police officer was injured after his squad car was hit by a woman’s truck who lost control of her automobile Friday in the north suburb.

The crash took place about noon as the officer was stopped in traffic in his marked squad car at Grand and Lewis Avenue, Waukegan police said.

Martha Morales, 74, lost control of her Chevrolet Colorado truck and struck the driver’s side of the squad car, police said.

The officer was admitted to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. The woman was not injured.

Morales was cited with inappropriate lane usage, failure to decrease speed to avoid an accident and driving with unsafe tires.

Morales has been expected to appear in traffic court on February 22.
