Porsche using electric Boxsters for advanced research in hybrid technology

by Alex

Three electric models and all of them based on the Porsche Boxster are in the offing from Porsche. Their venture into this field in such a big way is to help in their research for the electric car that would give more efficiency as well as lower fuel consumption added with lower emission levels. With time the company would come out with the hybrid concepts like the 918 Spyder, 911 GT3 R Hybrid and of course the Cayenne s Hybrid which is the first one to be run solely on electric power.

The plans are to develop these cars and gather data especially on the drive and battery components and systems that would help them in the production of their future electric cars. The nearest car from Porsche that is about to be launched is the PanameraS Hybrid. The results from the study on the three electric versions would help the company to even suitably modify the PanameraS which otherwise is scheduled for launch early next year. President and CEO of Porsche AG say “We will definitely be offering an electric sports car in future. But such a concept only makes sense if it offers product qualities typical of a Porsche.”

Whether there would be more electric Porsche in the near future is a point to be discussed.
