PSA Peugeot Citroen Hybrid Air powertrain still on track – report

by SpeedLux

PSA Peugeot Citroen has not been in the best of the news off lately but a recent report is indicating that their advanced Hybrid Air powertrain is progressing well.

Set to be launched in B-segment vehicles in the year 2016, the Hybrid Air powertrain uses a petrol engine, compressed air, a hydraulic motor-pump and an automatic transmission with an epicyclic gear train. The system enables cars to operate in three different modes that include petrol only, air only and petrol / air combined.

Peugeot has not been quite vocal about the system but previously stated that it could enable the Citroën C3 or Peugeot 208 to return an average of 2.9 L/100km (81.1 mpg US / 97.4 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of just 69 g/km. The company also noted that it is quite possible that the cars could operate as a zero emission vehicles – in Air mode – for as much as 60 to 80 percent of the time in city traffic.

We have to say this news has created some excitement and now we are eager to get more details of this Peugeot Citroen Hybrid Air powertrain.
