Self-driving car unit Waymo seeks outside investors

Alphabet Inc’s self-driving car unit, Waymo, has been seeking financing from outside investors including European automakers Volkswagen, The Information reported on Monday, menitoning a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Aside from Volkswagen, other potential investors could consist automakers that now make cars for Waymo – Fiat Chrysler and Jaguar.

Alphabet could not be immediately reached for discussion about the report.

Volkswagen and Ford Motor have also been in talks over how much the German automaker is going to invest in Ford’s self-driving vehicle unit.
