Three people were killed after a car crash on Interstate 10 near Eloy in Arizona on Thursday morning.

Officials view it as a case of human smuggling.

It was before 9 a.m. when a trooper tried to make a traffic stop on a Toyota SUV driving erratically on the I -10. The SUV soon fled from the trooper but couldn’t control the vehicle and flipped the vehicle across the median into eastbound traffic. It was then hit by a tractor-trailer head on.

Another car was also struck.

Multiple people in the SUV were ejected from the vehicle with three confirmed dead. The injured ones were hospitalized.

Two were pronounced dead at the scene, one succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.

The Department of Homeland Security is also investigating because of the attempted human smuggling.

The I-10 was resumed in both directions. The right lane going eastbound was still closed.
