Three killed after Amtrak train crashes with car in California

Three people were killed and two others were injured after an Amtrak train in California crashed with a vehicle on Sunday.

The crash took place when the passenger train was traveling westbound when it hit a sedan crossing the tracks near Brentwood, California, about 60 miles east of San Francisco, at 1 pm. The collision sent the vehicle into a parked SUV about 60 ft away.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

They have been identified as Mercedes Regaldo, 51, Maria Nieves, 72, and Julia Mondragon, 41.

Two people were flown to a hospital with serious injuries.

The train was carrying almost 90 people and nobody was injured.

The crash was being investigated by BNSF Railway and the Contra Costa county sheriff’s department.
