Seven-car crash in central Fresno, California

Three people have died after multiple cars crashed in central Fresno, California.

A 20-year-old man led police officers on a high-speed chase that resulted in the crash.

Investigators say a Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy saw Francisco Portillo driving a Black Chevy Camaro erratically in the area of Highway 41 at McKinley Avenue at 11 PM on Saturday.

When the deputy attempted to pull Portillo over, he quickly accelerated up to 100 miles an hour on surface streets.

Deputies called off the pursuit once he went those dangerously high speeds.

But when Portillo crossed through the intersection of Cedar and McKinley Avenues, he struck into several cars, resulting in a massive chain-reaction crash.

“There were at least seven vehicles involved in the collision,” says Fresno Police Lt. Israel Reyes. “Fresno Fire assisted in putting out the flames and extricating the victims.”

Three people died at the site of the accident while three others, including Portillo, were admitted to the hospital.

Police say Portillo and a woman who was inside the Chevy with him was dealing with major injuries.

Investigators are investigating the incident. Names of the victims are yet to be released.
