Toyota Motor stated it will extend a shutdown of all North American plants for two weeks because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and fall in vehicle demand.

The automaker stated it will continue all assembly and component parts plants in Canada, Mexico and the United States shutdown through April 17.

A number of U.S. states have issued shelter in place orders. Other automakers are also extending shutdowns that were initially declared in March, including Ford Motor.

About 85,762 people in the United States have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed about 1,306 people in the country.
