Two people died after a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Ontario.

The crash took place shortly after 1 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Gardiners Road. Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene and a third driver was admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It seems that an eastbound tractor-trailer crossed the median and crashed with transport trucks in the westbound lane. All four transport trucks, including a double-trailer truck, were involved in the crash.

The identities of the victims haven’t been released yet.

Highway 401 westbound from Gardiners Road to County Road 6 has been shut for all traffic and rerouted to the emergency detour route.

The road was closed after the crash as Ontario Provincial Police investigated the crash.
