A man and a woman died in a car crash on Wednesday evening in Santa Barbara, California.

The crash took place in the southbound Hwy 101 on-ramp at Garden St. in Santa Barbara at about 6:10 p.m.

A 29-year-old man was driving a 1997 Mercedes S500 with a 35-year-old female passenger. As the car approached the Garden St. intersection, it crossed through and entered the southbound Garden St. on-ramp, and then it hit a concrete wall.

After this, the car rolled over, came to rest on its wheel in the traffic lanes of the on-ramp, and was engulfed.

The driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene after they were pulled out by Good Samaritans.

The southbound Garden St. on-ramp was shut for some hours while the area was cleared, officials say.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
