Two killed after car crash on State Route 51 in Christian County

Two people were killed on Friday following a car crash on State Route 51 in Christian County, Illinois on Tuesday.

The crash took place when a 16-year-old from Assumption identified as Conner Rowcliff drove a 2018 Kia Optima into the intersection of Route 51 and Leafland Street, and into the path of a southbound truck.

A 15-year-old identified as Keegan Virden, of Henton, succumbed to his injuries on Friday at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Conner Rowcliff died earlier.

Rowcliff, Virden and a 14-year-old from were flown hospitals with life-threatening injuries. The 14-year-old’s status is yet to be known.

A 46-year-old truck driver from Decatur remains uninjured.

Illinois State Police was investigating the crash.
