Two people were killed early Saturday after a car crash in Whittier, California.

The crash took place around 1:50 a.m. close to the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Esperanza Avenue where two vehicles crashed into each other.

Both vehicles, red and black sedans, saw serious front-end and side damage. Fire crews used heavy tools to slash doors on one of the vehicles to access a person who was trapped inside the damaged car.

Two were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims are yet to be released.

Whittier Boulevard was closed for some hours as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash.
