Two people who were traveling by scooter were killed after a driver rear-ended them on Military Trail in West Palm on New Year’s Day.

The crash took place just after 2 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of South Military Trail in the southbound lanes, when the scooter had been southbound “within the outside lane” when a Nissan Versa which was traveling behind it by Karen Frances Stiles, 79, drove into the rear of the scooter.

This resulted in a crash that propelled the passengers off the scooter and onto the pavement.

The scooter’s driver, 56-year-old Francisco Amador, and a passenger identified as Daysi Milagros Gomez Infante, 65, of Miami, were admitted to St. Mary’s Medical Center, but they succumbed to their injuries there.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
