Two killed in car crash after hitting trees in Van Zandt County

Two Texas teenagers were killed after their car struck multiple trees on Monday night.

An 18-year-old identified as Kenneth Leonard was driving a 2001 Nissan M20 on FM 47 around 11:30 p.m. Leonard was driving and he lost control of the car when he went around a curve.

Leonard attempted to get the car back on the road, but overcorrected and went into a side skid. The car then went off the highway and struck several trees. The crash site was about twelve miles south of Wills Point in Van Zandt County, Texas.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old girl died as well.

Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash.
