Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash in Muskegon County, Michigan.

Police say the incident took place on Riley Thompson and Whitehall Road in Fruitland Township at about 3:45 p.m.

A Ford Fusion, driven by 22-year-old Joshua Gutierrez, was heading northbound on Whitehall Road and failed to yield to traffic while trying to turn westbound onto Riley Thompson Road. The car then pulled out in front of a Ford Fusion, driven by 69-year-old Sue Ellen Martin-Crowell, and the vehicles crashed head-on.

Martin-Crowell was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, and Gutierrez died while he was being taken to hospital.
