Two people were killed after the driver of a stolen vehicle, eluding Brighton officers, ran a stop sign and struck another car.

This resulted in the death of a passenger and a pedestrian.

The incident took place at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday when officers went to the area of Gaviota Avenue and Goldfinch Street following the report of a “suspicious vehicle”.

Officials soon “learned” that the vehicle was being stolen and the suspect driver “rammed” an officer’s vehicle.

Another officer turned on his overheads lights when he was trying to stop the stolen vehicle, but the driver sped off and a pursuit ensued.

At Bridge and Mt. Bierstadt streets, the driver ran a stop sign and struck another car.

The pursuit lasted about two minutes.

The suspect, identified as Nicholas Vilarina, 25, suffered serious injuries in the incident.

He is in custody now.

A 25-year-old woman in the stolen car was hospitalized for injuries.

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Investigation Team and the North Metro Accident Investigation Team are set to investigate the entire incident.
