Plant of Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) located in Uitenhage has been identified as the top factory in the worldwide Volkswagen production network in 2015. VWSA achieved the highest index rating of 113.2% among the 13 Volkswagen plants all over the world. This was the very first time that Uitenhage was ranked as the top manufacturing plant since the Beetle production began in August 1951.
