Audi developing the A9 four-door luxury sports car

by Alex

Audi is rumored to be working on a new model, an elegant four door, four seater luxury sports cars called A9. Well, it only seems the natural thing for luxury automakers to do, after the success of Mercedes-Benz CLS. Porsche has its Panamera, Jaguar its XJ and Aston Martin has Rapide. Audi’s A9 is expected to be a competitor to Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin’s Rapide. But this Audi looks more like a sports car than a sedan.

Audi A9 is the creation of Spanish independent designer Daniel Garcia who was inspired by the architect Santiago Calatrava’s exquisite buildings in Valencia. It is expected to have the same technology as that of Porsche Panamera. The car we expect will be offered the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, but a rear-wheel-drive version will also be offered. Regarding the engines, there could be a hybrid system that combines an internal combustion engine working in conjunction with four in-wheel electric motors. The Audi A9 may have the same engines as found on the new Audi A8. There could be a V8 engine delivering 372 horsepower and an ample 328 lb-ft. of torque, but also a supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 with 213 kW (290 hp). A diesel version of the car is also expected, powered by the popular 3.0 TDI with 184 kW (250 hp).

There are also speculations about a hybrid version, and sources say that this model could deliver up to 500 hp. The most powerful version of the car is expected to reach a top speed of around 300 km/h or 186 mph. It might be built on Volkswagen’s new modular building block (MSB) platform which is used by different car manufacturers which has an option of building both rear and four wheel drive models. The same platform was successfully used with Porsche’s Panamera.

The interiors of Audi A9 will be similar to but more luxurious than its latest models like A7 sportback and A8 and in-line with its price. Audi A7 sportback is also a new model of Audi. This car shares the same engine as Audi A8, but differs in its looks. The sportback looks more sporty and aggressive. Its design was inspired by the Audi sportback concept. Audi A9 will look similar to the sportback with angular lines, lights with LED technology, 20 inch wheels and a lightweight chassis.

A9 uses the nano engineering technology to create its most amazing aspect, an opaque wind shield which has the ability to adjust the color and tint as per requirement. Its uniqueness lies in its electronic painting system that can change the color of the car at the push of a button and its electroluminescent spoked wheels. The Audi A9 also works on alternate fuel, thus making it eco-friendly.

The Audi A9 is superior in capability to the Audi A8 and Audi A7; therefore it is not surprising that it will be higher than its predecessors. Regarding the price, A9 will have a base price of around $137,000 or €100,000, making it more expensive than the A8 flagship sedan.
