A 12-year-old San Francisco boy was hit and killed by a car in the Bayview neighborhood Wednesday morning, officials said.

The medical examiner’s office identified the victim of the incident as San Francisco resident Jesai Andrews, 12.

Officers looked into the reports of a crash and found Andrews suffering from life-threatening injuries on the 900 block of Ingerson Avenue at 10:11 a.m., said Robert Rueca, a spokesman for San Francisco police. The driver stayed at the scene of the crash.

Paramedics responded, but Andrews was declared dead at the scene.

He was riding a skateboard when the crash took place, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

The driver worked together with investigators, Rueca said. Police did not reveal whether the driver was impaired at the time of the accident.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased youth for this tragic incident,” police said.
