More than 652,000 Vehicles Involved in Latest Takata Airbag Recall

Thirteen car automakers are recalling over 652,000 automobiles in the United States in the latest round of harmful Takata air bag inflator recalls.

Automakers with recalls published Thursday are Audi, Nissan, Jaguar-Land Rover, Subaru, Daimler Vans, Tesla, Mitsubishi, BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes, Mazda, McLaren and Karma. All the recalls are to change front passenger inflators.

Takata inflators can blow up with excessive force, blowing apart a metal container and sending out shrapnel into the passenger compartment. Sixteen individuals have died globally and over 180 have been injured due to the issue.

The airbag recall is among the current round of Takata recalls covering 5.7 million automobiles including 19 car manufacturers in the United States. In overall, it’s the biggest car recall in U.S. history, impacting 69 million inflators and 42 million automobiles.

Owners can visit this site and put their 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) to see if their automobiles come under the recall.
