by SpeedLux

With the closure of the Genk plant, and the shifting of production to Spain, There is grief like situation across Europe since the much loved Mondeo will be away from action until 2014. However, the car is already on sale in the US, and now it is also ready for the Chinese market, where it will be called the Mondeo.

Just before its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, the Chinese Mondeo is ready, ahead of its formal market debut in May. The Chinese-made car, manufactured by the Chang’an-Ford joint venture aspires to be similar to the Europe specific Mondeo, was revealed at a private meeting earlier this month.

Despite being of very low quality, we can see a green Focus ST, as well as an Explorer SUV, on the far right. The Explorer will be made in china, by the Jiangling-Ford joint venture, from 2014 onwards which was being imported until now.

The Chinese Mondeo will get the same array of engines as the previous model, which will continue to be produced alongside the new model, like Mazda is doing with the 6. The 2.3-liter naturally-aspirated engine is rumored to be replaced by the 1.6-liter EcoBoost unit, but this is only an estimation frankly speaking.

The car cost will range from 170,000 to 260,000 yuan, or from $27,300 to $41,700.

Stay tuned till the auto begins and in the meantime enjoy the pictures.
