Even though the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 hasn’t even managed to the showrooms yet, due to Henessey’s enthusiasm, it has already been announcecd that a performance upgrade which boosts the power up to 1,021 horsepower will be used on the car.
The vehicle is now powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, which provides 580 horsepower (432 kW) together with 754 Nm (556 pound-feet of torque) – making it the most-powerful production Camaro ever. But appearently, these features of the American muscle car haven’t been quite enough for Henessey Performance Engineering, since the Texas based tuner which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, announced a range of upgrades for the 2012 Camaro ZL1. Doubling the output of the most powerful Camaro, these modifications will reach 1,021 horsepower.
At the current moment, the Hennessey HPE1000 Twin Turbo is the most powerful package available for the Camaro ZL1, its 7.0L LSX V8 featuring two turbochargers. More upgrades include new connecting rods, camshaft, forged low-compression pistons, Callies 4340 forged steel crank, an upgraded fuel system with new injectors, high-flow cylinder heads, an electronic boost controller, air-to-air intercooler and a stainless-steel exhaust system. The only transmission offered for the car will be a manual setup with a dual friction clutch.
The Hennessey HPE1000 package also features serial-numbered dash and engine plaques, exterior badging, premium floormats and embroidered headrests. The HPE1000 Twin Turbo comes also with a one year or 12,000 mile limited warranty.
The Texas tuner also offers a more drivable Camaro with less power like 600, 650, 700 and 800 hp variants, because of the fact that the Camaro ZL1 with HPE1000 Twin Turbo upgrade won’t be legal in the state of California.
