South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor said on Wednesday its provisional April sales dropped 57% on year to 159,079 vehicles globally, as Covid-19 coronavirus and efforts to reduce its spread significantly contracted auto demand and dealership traffic.

Hyundai Motor said last month it does expect modest recovery in Chinese auto demand but expects weak sales elsewhere in 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic caused first-quarter vehicle sales to to decline 18%.

Coronavirus has so far infected more than 3,663,911 people in the world and killed more than 257,301 people.
