Hyundai unveils Russian market Sonata sedan

by Alex

The Moscow motor show witnessed the debut of the local market version of its new Sonata sedan from Hyundai.

The mid-size luxury sedan would be sold in Russia without any styling difference as compared to the United States version of the Sonata. However, the luxury vehicle gets an engine lineup that is marked by dissimilarity with it US counterpart. The Russian version of the luxurious sonata car gets a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. This Russian version engine produces a total power of 150 HP and 198 Nm of torque. The 2.4-liter four-banger Russian version engine is rated to produce 178 HP of peak power and 228 Nm units of torque. The U.S. version of the same engine, which is known as the Theta II extradites 196HP to the rear wheels. Both 2.0 liter and 2.4-liter engines are attached to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control is also being electively offered to the buyers.

The other specifications that are newly added to the Russian version of the Sonata from Hyundai consists of an ESP, amplitude selective dampers, foot parking brake, and rear heated seats. However, these additions may vary depending on the trim level.

Last September, the sixth-generation Sonata, Hyundai’s luxury sedan, had been introduced in its domestic market in South Korea. Starting December 2009 the firm’s Alabama plant commenced production of the sport sedan for North America luxury car market. This is not the end of it as the company also has plans to make the debut of its luxury sports car in Chinese market as well. The production for the Chinese auto market is expected to commence early next year. In an official release of information pertaining to Hyundai’s sales targets the company’s spokesperson maintained that the company has set a worldwide annual target of selling over 450,000 units from the year 2011 onwards.
