Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday welcomed a move by the United States against General Motors over alleged labor violations at a Mexican factory, saying the two governments had to work together to protect factory workers.

The Biden administration on Wednesday asked Mexico to evaluate alleged labor rights violations at a General Motors pickup truck factory in the country, a move that could lead to tariffs on some of the automaker’s most profitable vehicles under the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on trade.

The labor rights violations allegedly took place at a GM pickup truck factory in the city of Silao.
