The new 2010 Lexus LF-A

by Alex

Here it is that many have been waiting for, the official announcement about the Lexus LF-A. The occasion was the world debut of the Lexus LF-A at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The super car from Toyota is a limited edition version in terms of the total production of the units that the company stated would be simply limited to a mere 500 units. The price of sports vehicle for each unit is expected to be starting at $375,000. In the meantime, the luxury automaker from Japan has in a surprisingly short time starting booking orders.

Needless to say, the 4.8 liter V10 delivers plenty of power to run a LF-A super sports sedan. The V10 engine churns out a maximum power output of 560 HP at a max engine speed of 9,000 RPM. The peak torque level delivered by the 4.8 liter V10 is 354 lb-ft at 6,800 RPM. The engine churns out over 90 percent of the total torque starting at the speed of 3,700 RPM. The torque reaches the red line mark at 9,000 RPM and starts producing the maximum output of 560 HP. Such a road torque curve enables the LF-A to be driven to accelerate at a rocketing speed from 0 mph to 60 mph in a lean 3.7 seconds. In addition, it allows the sports car to hit a maximum speed limit of 202 mph.

The Lexus engineering team designing the LF-A has extensively employed materials weighing very low in order to ensure that the LF-A goes in a straight line and handling the vehicle is relatively easier. The materials use includes aluminum, magnesium, and titanium alloys in conjunction with carbon fibers. This unique combination of these materials maintains a low curb weight while at the same time makes the LF-A a tough and rigid vehicle.

The super sports sedan is powered by a compact sized engine which is smaller than a conventional V8 engine. This efficiently designed engine made it possible for the engineers at Toyota working on the LF-A to aim for optimal weight distribution as well as an extremely favorable power to weight ratio. The LF-A therefore is something that Nissan and their GT-R super car should be on the lookout for.

which allowed the Toyota engineers to design the LF-A with the optimal weight distribution and an exceptional power to weight ratio. Thus giving Nissan and their GT-R super car something to watch out for.
