A car hit and killed a pedestrian walking on a busy Pleasanton roadway in California on Friday night.

At about 7:40 p.m., police were informed about the crash at the intersection of Johnson Drive and Owens Drive, Sgt. Robert Shuffield said Saturday. A car had been moving southbound on Johnson when it struck a man walking near Owens Drive.

Although paramedics rushed him to the hospital, the man died due to his injuries, Shuffield said. His identity will be released after his official identification and notification of next of kin by the coroner’s office.

Police have not figured out whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, Shuffield said. Anyone with details related to the incident can contact the Pleasanton Police Department Traffic Unit at 925-931-5100.
