Recall: 2011-12 Porsche Boxster, Cayman, 911 Models For Seatbelt Anchor Issue

by Ionut Dragomir

Bad news for Porsche owners because Porsche North America is recalling certain 2011 – 2012 model year 911s, Caymans and Boxsters for faulty seat belts.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue involves the vehicles’ seat belt mechanism, specifically the seat belt anchor plate.

The manufacturer says that there’s a possibility that affected models have undersized anchor plate mounting holes, which could restrict the plate from rotating as intended and may result in the seatbelt not being “routed optimally around the occupant.” Over time, the anchor plate could loosen, causing the seatbelt to not function as intended, which can become a not-so-important problem, but in the worst case scenario, this could lead some severe injuries, or even death in an car crash. However, so far no accidents or injuries caused by the issue have been reported.

Vehicles affected include:

PORSCHE / 911 CARRERA 2012
PORSCHE / 911 CARRERA 4 2012
